Ransmayr

The Terrors of Ice and Darkness (1984) by Christoph Ransmayr is a book I adapted for a "Light and Word" performance to open the international Poetry Festival BARDINALE in 2004.

Inspired by Ransmayr's great work I prepared a script and dramaturgy for one actor. The performance took place in the "Scheune" a well known music hall in the "Neustadt" Dresden. The adventure story of men trapped in ice, as their boat freezes to a standstill during a failed search for the non  existing North East passage, is dramatic and heartening as they discover a will to survive stronger than the pack ice that holds them in its deadly grip. During the text readings I changed the lighting situation constantly live on stage as part of the performance.
