König Johann

König Johann, translated Dantes famous work "Divine Comedy" into German under the name pseudonym Philalethes "Friend of truth". A friend of Carl Gustav Carus, Johann born in Dresden, was the central figure of the play written by Walter Henkel. Henkel's idea was that the work should be told by a delirious sick bed ridden man, jumping from one memory and vision to the next. I added to this the idea that the thoughts could be visualized through a live drawing action on stage which could be followed by the audience, giving clues and incites to the subject matter. Below is a selection of the drawings that were produced live on an overhead projector during one of the performances.
